What Are The Signs Of A Colon That Is Not Functioning Properly?

  • Bloating or flatulence

  • Digestive problems

  • Constipation

  • Skin problems

  • Headaches

  • Lower back pain

  • Regular bouts of fatigue

  • Poor concentration

  • Candida

  • Difficulty in losing weight

How Many Will I Need ?

After your first colonic your colon practitioner will be able to advise you how many treatments you may need based on several factors:

  • What is observed during the treatment

  • Your health history

  • Your current level of bowel build-up- that is, how functional your bowel is

  • Your bowel health

  • Your health and fitness goals

Generally a series of treatments are necessary, then, depending on the individual, a client will benefit from additional colonics throughout a year. It is important to note, that this process is removing matter that has been built upon the colon wall over many years.

Do I Need More Than One Treatment ?

The short answer is YES . Most of us have considerable amounts of impacted, hardened waste in our colons. The colon (large intestine) is over 1.5 metres long and it would not be possible to clear it in one treatment. We aim to clear all blockages with three treatments but assess the number you need based on your health condition, personal goals and objectives.

It is important to be aware of your objectives when having a colonic. For example if it is to overcome a long term problem, such as constipation, ill health, bad eating habits and to achieve vital health again, several treatments may be required. If your objective is to recover from the flu or a short term problem then usually one or two is sufficient. This will be assessed in consultation with your practitioner.

Will Good Bacteria Be Lost?

In a colon that is not functioning properly, healthy bacteria are more than likely overrun by bad bacteria. Research has shown that good bacteria (the bacteria which is needed for healthy digestion), has difficulty surviving when the colon is impacted with old, putrefied, toxic matter. In fact, one of the main aims of colon hydrotherapy is to create a healthy and balanced bowel environment where good bacteria can flourish.

Washing out waste matter and harmful bacteria in the colon can only help to increase the production of good intestinal bacteria. When a bowel is “blocked” it is often overcome with toxins and bad bacteria. Good bacteria can only “breathe” and multiply in a clean environment so colon hydrotherapy helps the glands that produce good bacteria to maintain their role of the production of producing more.

When Will The Colon Be Empty ?

The objective of colon hydrotherapy is not to have an empty colon, but a well functioning colon. As such, it will never be completely empty as it is an organ that is in continuous use. However, as more and more of the old impacted waste is removed you will actually feel the water enter higher regions of the colon during treatments without any sense of obstruction.

Will A Colonic Help My Skin ?

Your skin is your body’s largest organ and it “breathes”, allowing for the elimination of waste material. Sometimes if the colon, liver or kidneys are functioning poorly, the skin will be required to work harder but results in surface eruptions on the skin of various sorts due to toxins being released. Cleaning the colon diminishes the burden placed upon the skin as well as the other organs of elimination: lungs, liver and kidneys. As elimination is improved through its proper channels, the skin will often not only clear up but may clients discuss a feeling of “glowing”.

I Am A Woman, What If I Am Menstruating ?

Different clients have different symptoms however it is perfectly safe and beneficial to have a colonic during your “period”. Some women find having a colonic on the day their period starts or just prior to it helps reduce the amount of discomfort. However, if you are prone to cramping it is probably best to leave the colonic until after your period ends.

Is There Anything I Need To Do Before My Treatment?

You are not required to fast before a colonic, though it is a good idea to only eat and drink lightly 2 hours before your session. Eating well several days prior by including plenty of salads and fresh green vegetables eliminating processed foods and heavy carbohydrates certainly helps for a good colonic.

Is it Embarrassing During A Treatment ?

You will be in a private room with your practitioner during the treatment. Your practitioner fully understands the sensitivity of the colonic procedure and your personal dignity and comfort is maintained at all times and your emotions respected and acknowledged.

How Long Does The Treatment Take?

The colonic treatment takes between 30 and 45 minutes depends on each client and how the practitioner assesses the progress of the procedure. Prepare for 5 minutes before treatment to empty the bladder and change and approximately 10 minutes after so in all 1 hour is the usual required appointment time. On your first visit, allow 1hr 15mins as a personal details and health form need to be completed.

What Should I Expect After A Treatment?

More than likely, you will feel great. You will probably feel lighter and experience a sense of well being. You can resume normal activates such as work after a colonic. Exercise is not recommended till at least the following day. For some clients the colonic may trigger subsequent controlled bowel movements afterwards as matter continues to move down the bowel.

What Can I Eat Afterwards?

Some people prefer to do raw foods for the rest of the day or for a few days such as fruits, vegetables, soup (fresh), nuts, seeds and juices to enhance the detoxification process.

Most people use a colonic to begin a better nutritional program. The more you work towards eliminating refined foods like sugar, flour, milk, chemicals, additives and preservatives the more your system will respond and feel great.

Is A Colonic Beneficial During A Detox?

A detox increases the rate at which toxins are released into the bloodstream. It is essential to eliminate as much as possible via the colon or the toxins may remain in and settle in organs, muscles and tissues and you may experience increased discomfort. Colonics are a highly beneficial form of elimination.

Can Colonic Hydrotherapy Assist With Weight Control ?

Not only does blocked waste matter in the colon account for unwanted kilos, it also slows down metabolism, increasing your chances of putting on more weight. By removing the toxins and waste and improving diet and lifestyle, this aids weight management considerably.

Will Laxatives Or Enemas Accomplish The Same Results?

To clean out the lower part of the colon, enemas are fine. But you are missing the majority of the colon.

Laxatives are an irritant to the body and can damage nerve endings with long term usage. The body in this instance removes some waste but leaves behind impacted toxins and waste.

What Kind Of Eating Plan Should I Adopt Following My Treatments?

Years of poor dietary habits, general dehydration, inconsistent exercise and ignoring the urge 'to go' can leave your bowel blocked.

Colonic Irrigation is simple, safe and speedily effective when it is properly administered, and when combined with realistic lifestyle changes, can go a long way to creating good elimination and better bowel health.

Your practitioner will discuss your nutritional requirements during the treatment and provide you with a recommended healthy eating plan for you to follow, after your first session.

After your treatment, we recommend that you:

  • Drink plenty of liquids (water, fresh juices- not processed, herb teas, and electrolyte liquids.)

  • Eat pureed food for 24 hours after each session (blended soups are good)

  • Reduce the consumption of red meats, including pork.

  • Refrain from exercise for a minimum of three to four hours.
